Derald,
You have always had a special place in my heart.  I am not sure if it was those early morning rides when you took Mom to work and I  rode along because I knew you would stop at the 'Small Fry'.   I am sure it was great for you being seen with your 7 year old sister! Or the time when Grandma Brocksmith died and you bought my first pair of high heels! I knew if I ever needed anything you were there.  You could always be depended upon no matter what.  If I called and said I needed you, you were there.  I love you very much and miss you.  I know that you are happy being with Jerry and Dad, and  Mom and Roy are not bad either.  I am happy that you know the gospel is true and I  know without a doubt we will be together forever.  Love you forever, Vic
Cheryl K. (Brocksmith) Acton Tribute from a Niece February 23, 2012
I have many fond memories of my Uncle Derald, who always made it possible for me to spend time with my Quincy cousins by letting me stay for stretches of time in the summer, taking me along on family outings to the county fair or amusement parks, and driving to meet my parents half way between Quincy and Kansas City to exchange kids. He was always very kind and generous with me, treating me like a daughter when I was in his care. I remember getting a large, painful splinter in my foot on one visit - Derald took me to the hospital to have it taken out. He was up early and on the road working before most people had even thought about getting out of bed. I always admired that about him. He always knew what he was doing. He took his responsibilities seriously while also enjoying life. He stopped to admire the flowers in Paula's garden, for example, and he was a fixture at every family event. Because of distance, I did not see him very often, but I will miss him.
Your Son Don Our Camping Trip from Hell February 23, 2012
Dad, I remember like it was yesterday when we were camping in our first pull-behind camper, you know the one that anyone else would have been embarrased to pull-behind their car, the wind and rain came, the canvas top came down, we all woke up scared to death and dad said "Let's fix some hot tang".  We drank the hot tang you fixed, you fixed the torn and tattered tent, we all crawled back in our sleeping bags and we went back to sleep.  Thank you for that dad!  I love you.

Jack Brocksmith My Brother February 24, 2012
My heart goes out to all who loved my dear borother. He was such a good and kind man. I had a one on one trip with him to ENT AFB in Colorado, and it was fun. We had a generator go out and we ate a nice farm breakfast at a farm house close to the Garage that fixed the car. We just were there and backing in that time. Over the years life took us in different directions, but make no mistake I loved my brother dearly and his children. I will add Paula to my list of Brocksmith Widows and check in on her now and again. Death is something we all fear but as a Latter Day Saint I know, as did Derald, he is in the arms of his dear bothers, our parents, the Kindred's, and his spirit lives on.

Powers Family Sorry for your loss...... February 24, 2012
Brocksmith family,
We are so sorry to hear of Derald's passing. I will always remember Derald riding that lawn mower around and sitting outside the garage in his chair on summer mornings. You guys are great neighbors and we appreciate all the times you have let Chelsie come over to play when Bailee is up visiting.
We would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to you since we won't be able to do so in person on Saturday, as we also lost Jim's aunt the same day as Derald and we will be attending her services on that day.

This is a wonderful website and I so appreciate reading the memories of your friends and family members.  I just came across your picture at my wedding reception (1968) while going through family pictures to share with cousins.  I am sending my heartfelt sympathies about your loss but know you have the very best rememberances to help you along the way.  Sincerely, Carole Smith (Cris Sandberg's sister)

Don, I recall meeting Derald at your wedding.  We talked to each other off and on throughout that day.  I remember feeling his warmth during our conversations and the proudness in his voice as he taked about his family.  As I was introduced and got to know your family members a little bit it didn't take long to realize that those Brocksmith boys were something else. I kept asking myself wow, how many family members are there?  Anyway, I just wanted to say that afterwards I knew you came from a fine, caring family and that Derald had probably played a large role in that.  You Brocksmith's are tough as nails and you will be fine.  May God bless and be with Derald and your family.
